Give a Girl a Sword!

Bristol actress Maisie Williams has been credited with getting more women sword fighting in her the Bristol area – thanks to her powerful performances in Game of Thrones.

Twenty-year-old Maisie, who was born in Bristol and grew up in nearby Clutton, found global fame as a teenager when she was cast in the hit TV show as sword-wielding warrior Arya Stark.

And it is no coincidence that the sport has found new popularity in Somerset.

The medieval pastime has caught the imagination of modern women in Taunton, who are taking up the hobby, previously dominated by men.
